A consummate teaching artist and dually certified New Jersey Teacher of Music and Social Studies, Pete Kalvert has proven himself to be a galvanizing force for Music education as the Founder & Director of Music Ascension. Since 1999, he and his team have produced over 80 CDs featuring the lyrics, music, and artwork of thousands of children throughout the United States.

A consummate singer/songwriter, teaching artist, audio-engineer, and music producer, Pete Kalvert has proven himself to be a galvanizing force for music education as the Founder & Director of Music Ascension. Founded in 1999 with the belief that our children’s voices deserve to be heard, Music Ascension has gone on to produce over 60 full length CDs, inspired thousands of students, and has resulted in countless performances.
Kalvert oversees music programs at Chapel Hill Academy, Fed Cap School, Camp Echo Lake, Camp Laurel, Lake of the Woods and Greenwoods Camp, and Trail’s End Camp. Each of these programs has been customized to serve their unique populations. Music Ascension has previously run programs at Chancellor Academy and Project Morry. Prior to founding Music Ascension, Kalvert was a NYC public school music teacher at PS 186 and Teaching-Artist with ArtsConnection, the oldest Arts-in-Education organization in NYC.
In addition to his work with students, Kalvert has been invited to design and provide professional Development workshops at several ASAH conferences, the Newark Public Schools Arts Office, the West Orange Central School District, Chapel Hill Academy, Orange and Essex County Child Study Teams, The Fed Cap School, and has served on discussion panels at the American Camp Association’s Tri-State Conference. His work with Music Ascension has been featured on WBAI’s Wake Up Call, WFUV’s Cityscapes, and was the focus of a documentary film titled Morry’s Song produced by Left Unsaid Films.

As an artist, Kalvert blends his signature singer/songwriter lyricism with a strong rhythmic identity to create a folksy, yet sophisticated musical sound. He has gone on tour throughout the Northeast and his music has been heard in venues through New York City, including The Living Room, Joe’s Pub, Parkside Lounge, The Petting Room, among others. His records has been released on Blue Monster Records and have been heard on KLZT-FM, KPIG-FM, and other independent radio stations.
A graduate of Brown University, Kalvert continued to study music at SUNY Purchase, Cabrillo College, New York University, SUNY New Paltz, and Berklee Music. Peter is a dually Certified Teacher of Music and Teacher of Social Studies by the State of New Jersey. He is a Certified Pro-Tools Operator and worked for several years at Blue Monster Studios in Brooklyn, NY specializing in recording traditional West African music.
