Maharashtra, the second largest state in India, faces acute water problems; a threat to its economy. The water regulator of Maharashtra introduces problems and possible solutions, and emphasizes the importance of youth activism in water resources change making. This is a short format “lightning round” talk; given by the organizer invitation, to seed future talks and exploration by youth and cross generational communities.
About the Speaker
K P Bakshi
Mr. K P Bakshi is an IAS officer of 1982 batch from Maharashtra. He has done his B Tech with distinction, from I I T Kharagpur (West Bengal) in the year 1977 & MBA with ‘Distinction’ from the United Kingdom Thereafter he worked as a Senior Scientific Officer in DEFENSE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT LABORATORY ( DRDL) Hyderabad, developing Missiles for 5 years before switching over to the IAS. He has held several important positions in Maharashtra a few being the Municipal Commissioners Of Amaravati, Nashik, Ulhasnagar and Thane Cities, Joint MD of CIDCO ACS Planning and he is finally superannuated as the Additional Chief Secretary ( Home) Govt of Maharashtra. Currently, he holds the post of Chairman Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority. He has been awarded the Prestigious “KIGA” ( KALAM INNOVATION IN GOVERNANCE AWARD ) AWARD 2019 by the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Foundation For INNOVATION IN GOVERNANCE, chaired several Committees, most recent of them being the 7th Pay Committee for the 20 Lakh employees of the State Of Maharashtra. He has been a sports enthusiast and has been a member of the All India Civil Services Badminton Tournament’s Champion Team Hyderabad in the years 1978 and 1979.
