The ideals of Adam Frankel
Working side-by-side with Obama since 2007 as a speechwriter, Adam Frankel is now focused on bringing meaningful change to education.
In his talk today, Adam said he left the White House even more idealistic than when he went in. Why? “Even in the most inhospitable political climate in a generation…look at what we DID get done, ” indicating health care, equal pay, saving the auto industry and more. Now Adam is working one of the most important initiatives of our time.
His organization, Digital Promise, is focused on harnessing the increasing capacity of advanced information and digital technologies to improve all levels of learning and education, formal and informal, in order to provide Americans with the knowledge and skills needed to compete in the global economy.
In his talk, Adam identified 3 key challenges:
1. Research – we need better, faster A/B testing about what works and doesn’t work for teachers
2. Access – It’s very hard for entrepreneurs to gain access into K-12 markets. Teachers and districts need the ability to gain access to materials and technologies
3. Ease of use – Installation is extremely difficult and schools are not prepared for it
By creating The Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools, Adam and his team are building a national coalition of school districts that will work together with start-ups, research institutions, and each another to demonstrate, evaluate, and scale up innovations that deliver better results for students.
